Are Septic Tank Risers Worth It?

By the Foster’s Team · October 19, 2026

A hose run from the Foster's truck up to a tank on a steep yard

In a lot of older Texas homes, the septic lids are buried a foot or more under the dirt. Every time the tank needs a pump, someone has to dig.

What a riser is

A riser is a tube that sits on top of your tank opening. It comes up to the top of the ground. A lid goes on top. Now you can open the tank without a shovel.

Why people get one

  • You stop paying for digging every time
  • Your pump visits go faster
  • Your yard doesn’t get torn up
  • Checks and inspections are easier

A riser often pays for itself after a few visits.

Is it safe?

Yes, when it’s done right. The lid should lock or screw down, so kids and pets can’t open it. Never leave a lid loose.

When to do it

The best time is during a pump-out. The lids are already dug up. We can put the riser on while we’re there.
